As a coach, I specialize in transitions. Transitions are tough for most people and coaches make it easier. I have been through many transitions in my life. I left a small hometown for my first job in the metropolitan NY/NJ area. Three careers, a thriving business, and a graduate degree later and I realize just how many transitions I have been through in my life. I have achieved personal happiness and professional success with my coaches and I am not done yet. Please see below for more details on my transitions and challenges.

I now coach others using many of the tools that my coaches used with me and also using new experiences and techniques that I have developed. What challenge or transition are you facing today? kate@katenasser.com

What is coaching?
It is a process to help you reach some specific goal. In an initial coaching session, we clarify what it is you want to achieve.
Here are some examples:

  • A public school principal who wanted to get tenure and had to change the way he communicated with the superintendent to reach this goal. Personality Indicators were a critical part of the process that I used with him.
  • A manager who wanted to be more assertive to keep his new job after feedback from his boss to that end. We used weekly examples from his work to hone specific behaviors customized to his job.
  • A manager who needed and wanted to develop better public speaking and presentation skills for many aspects of her job. This was both challenging and fun for her!
  • A systems analyst who wanted to relocate from the east coast to New Mexico and live a very different life. She did not know where to begin or how to get there. She is there now.

What will you face in a coaching session?
I ask lots of questions and listen to your perspectives. I have you do exercises during and after each session, give you guidance to explore, and very often administer a Personality Indicator like Wilson Social Styles, Keirsey, or Myers-Briggs to help give you data about yourself that you can use during your transition and throughout your life.

How, where, when?
The coaching is done by appointment either in person or by phone. The frequency depends on the urgency of your goals. Sometimes it is once a week and other times it is once every two or three weeks to allow you time for research and practice. Ultimately, it is your choice.

More about Kate’s transitions and growth
Coming out of college, I chose high-school math teaching as my career and I did it for three months. I realized I did not like it and thought it was wise to make a move before I believed that I could not change. I have learned that it is never too late to grow and change.

So I went into computers and dealt with the pain of transitioning to a career I knew nothing about! After working for two great companies and never being happy, I realized that I was still on my journey to find a career that would satisfy me and give me some happiness in my life.

Despite many who said I was foolish for trying to find a career that would give me joy and happiness, I persisted. Yet I needed help. I went to a career coach and a life coach and it was the turning point of my life – not just of my career. It was the coach who told me I wanted to be self-employed based on the results of various personality instruments. She was so right. So step-by-step, I began to build a business.

When it truly started to succeed, I realized my transition was not yet over. Now I wanted to find time for a personal life – hobbies, more friends, a relationship etc… I have found time for my latin/ballroom dancing, have a satisfying social life, and look forward to the next step!
