Fun Tip #200
The Geography of Customer Service
Each time someone calls, see if you can tell where s/he is from without checking the area code.

Customers that live/work in different sections of the USA expect different treatment. This is called the geography of customer service.

If you practice, you will get very good at treating people the way they want to be treated! Geography is a part of this.

Fun Tip #100
If in your profession you must deal with complaints from customers or employees, remember this:

“Lady, if they’re smiling when they come in here, they’re in the wrong room!”

Agent
Lost Luggage Center
Las Vegas Airport

This is what the agent said to me when I asked him how he remained so upbeat, calm, and dedicated to his job while always listening to irate travelers trying to find their luggage. I was back in the line and observed him handling all the irate customers in front of me. He exhibited the ideal attitude to have when you are dealing with upset people. I wished I had my video camera with me to capture his behavior to illustrate yet another example of great people-skills.

Lessons to Learn From This:

Be upbeat and calm.
Let them vent.
Empathize then solve the problem.
Revel in helping others. That is what this agent did so well!

Oh by the way, fun tip #100 works in your personal relationships too!
